Cancellation & Refund Policy
At Red Lantern Tours, we understand that plans can change and that the Australian outdoors can be unpredictable. We do our best to be fair and flexible while keeping our tours safe and sustainable to operate.
This policy explains how we handle cancellations, weather disruptions, and refunds in line with the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
1. If We Cancel (Business-Initiated Cancellations)
Your safety and experience are our top priorities. Red Lantern Tours may need to cancel a tour due to:
Insufficient bookings
Unforeseen operational or safety reasons
a multitude of other reasons
If your tour is cancelled by us, you will have the option to:
Rebook your tour for a future date
Receive a credit towards another Red Lantern Tours experience
Receive a full refund
Refunds are returned to your original payment method within a reasonable timeframe.
This policy operates alongside your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which entitles you to a remedy in the case of a major service failure.
2. If the Weather Forces a Cancellation
If your experience cannot proceed due to weather such as cloud, high winds, storms, bushfire risk, or hazardous travel conditions, we will contact you as soon as possible, typically at least two hours before departure.
In this case, you may choose to:
Rebook to a future available date at no extra cost
Receive a credit towards another Red Lantern Tours experience
Request a refund, which may be issued at our discretion based on the situation
We will always aim to ensure you do not miss out on the experience you were looking forward to.
3. If You Need to Cancel
We understand that plans sometimes change, but as a small tourism business, late cancellations have a significant impact. Please take note of the following conditions.
a. Cancellations within 48 hours of your tour
If you cancel within 48 hours of your scheduled start time, 100 percent of the tour cost will be retained as a cancellation fee.
No refund will be provided.
b. Cancellations made after booking but more than 48 hours before your tour
If you cancel after your booking is confirmed but more than 48 hours before your tour,
50 percent of the tour cost will be retained as a cancellation fee.
The remaining 50 percent may be refunded, credited, or transferred at the discretion of Red Lantern Tours.
c. Exceptional Circumstances
We may, at our discretion, offer a partial or full refund, or credit towards another tour, in exceptional cases such as verified medical emergencies or major travel disruptions.
We aim to be fair while balancing the real costs involved in tour preparation and staffing.
4. No Shows
If you do not attend your tour without prior notice, your booking will be forfeited and no refund or credit will be issued.
5. Changing Your Booking
If you wish to change your booking date or transfer it to another person, please contact us at least 48 hours before your scheduled experience.
All changes are subject to availability, and multiple changes may incur an administrative fee.
6. Your Rights Under Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in this policy removes or limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
If Red Lantern Tours fails to provide a service as promised, or if a major problem occurs, you are entitled to a suitable remedy such as a replacement, reschedule, credit, or refund.
